To get started with your Trezor device, whether it's the Trezor Model One, Model T, or Safe 3, follow these steps to ensure a smooth and secure setup process:

What You'll Need:

  • Your Trezor hardware wallet (Model One, Model T, or Safe 3)

  • USB connecting cable

  • Trezor Suite desktop application (or you can use the Trezor Suite web version)

  • Recovery seed card and a pen

  • About 20 minutes of uninterrupted time

Setup Process:

  1. Connect Your Device:

    • Open the Trezor Suite application on your computer.

    • Connect your Trezor device using the USB cable. The Suite will prompt you to opt-in or opt-out of anonymous data collection. Opting in helps with bug fixes and performance improvements, but it's not mandatory.

  2. Security Check:

    • Before proceeding, ensure that the device's packaging is intact and the holographic seal is not tampered with. If you notice any tampering, do not use the device. Contact Trezor customer support for assistance.

  3. Install Firmware:

    • Your Trezor device comes without firmware. Click the "Install firmware" button in Trezor Suite to download and install the latest version. After the installation, click "Continue".

  4. Device Authentication:

    • Trezor Suite will perform a quick security check to authenticate your device. Follow the prompts on the screen and on your device to complete this step.

  5. Set Up New Wallet:

    • Choose "Create new wallet". You can also choose to recover an existing wallet if you have a recovery seed from a previous setup. For a new wallet, you will be prompted to select between "Standard seed backup" and "Advanced Shamir backup". The standard method involves writing down a series of words (recovery seed) that you will need to keep safe and secure.

  6. Backup Recovery Seed:

    • Write down the recovery seed words on the provided card. Do not make digital copies of this seed, and never upload it online. This seed is crucial for recovering your wallet in case you lose access to your device.

  7. Set a PIN:

    • After backing up your seed, set a PIN to protect your device from unauthorized access. Follow the prompts to create and confirm your PIN.

  8. Complete Setup:

    • Once the PIN is set, your Trezor device is ready to use. You can now access and manage your cryptocurrency securely.
